Welcome
I am a 43 year old, some say attractive, single mum. I ventured into the unchartered territory that is "internet dating" and little did I know what I was letting myself in for. When you've been in a longterm relationship like I had been (15 years to be exact), the last thing you expect is to have to think about putting yourself back out there. At a young, verile teenager, chatting up blokes wasn't something I ever thought about and certainly not something I ever worried about. I was young, attractive, size 10 and full of confidence. Suddenly I was 40, not quite so attractive, size 16 and lacking in confidence and bullshit! This is my story.....
It all began in June 2009 on the day that my partner left the family home after 15 years of some bliss and some heartache. I dont need to elaborate more on the lead up to his departure as its not relevant to this blog. It was following his departure that this story unfolds and it was at that point that I asked myself "does life begin at 40". After spending a few months getting used to the idea of being not only single, but also a single parent, I decided to venture down the path of internet dating. I sat one evening once my daughter was in bed and decided to research the best and worst sites in the hope of finding love again. I decided to join a site for "single parents". I innocently thought this would mean that any prospective partner would have an understanding of the free time constraints on parents with relatively young children and would therefore be understanding of my predicament, as they themselves would be "in the same boat". I innocently felt this would give us some mutual ground to build any relationship on. Oh how naive I was!!
It is now February 2012. I am still single. I have been a member of nearly every respectable dating site available in the UK. I have lost count of the amount of dates I have been on, but I still venture on in the hope of finding "the one". This is my story of the ups and downs of dating both on and off the internet, the trials and tribulations of it, the hurt, the laughter, the insane and the downright ridiculous. Hopefully you will enjoy my journey as it continues on to find my "soul mate".
If you wonder why I'm writing this, I have decided to write a blog about my experiences of dating, as friends have told me "you should write a book", I thought this would be the next best thing. If you have ever found yourself single and wanting to meet someone new - you might enjoy my story. If you are thinking of venturing into the dating world whatever your age, you might find some of my blog and advice useful.
